Congratulations to Luke Bodensteiner as he was named vice president, athletics this week. Bodensteiner will oversee the integration of our six sports under a unified strategic plan, as well as high performance service to those programs in sport education, sport science and sports medicine programs. “I’m thrilled to be working with such a great group of people as the USSA staff, who have been so effective at improving the conditions for our athletes, and enabling them to perform like never before. All of us together are building a great team and I look forward to creating an environment of support that maximizes our collective performance,” Bodensteiner said.

USST AllOut 200

The USSA’s disabled ski team is changing its name to better reflect the high level of athleticism of its members. The team will now become the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team, and our formal sport program known as USSA Adaptive. “The athletes of the U.S. Adaptive Ski Team are anything but disabled. These are some of the most physically fit and technically skilled athletes in the world,” said President and CEO Bill Marolt. The change is taking place immediately and will be showcased when the U.S. Adaptive Alpine Ski Team opens its season Dec. 8-9 at The Hartford Ski Spectacular.

Please be advised starting November 1, 2008, USADA requires all Whereabouts Filings - formerly called Athlete Location Forms (ALFs) to be submitted via their online accounts on USADA’s website at www.usada.org.

Additionally, there are new rules in place that will require the athlete to identify every day an exact location of their whereabouts for a specific hour of time between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. Communication from coaches about schedules and any changes to those schedules are particularly important to help you manage this daily requirement.

Many of you have approached me about receiving funding, prize money, gifts, etc. and how it may impact your future eligibility to compete at the college level. The best place for you to start to get your questions answered is the compliance office in the athletics department at the institution you are considering. If they offer skiing, they will know the NCAA policies/bylaws and how they apply to covering necesaary expenses, etc. You may also contact the NCAA Public Line at 317.917.6222. Do not jeopardize your eligibility. Make the call.
